do you have a favourite quote?

so i've recently gathered some embroidery supplies and want to make a little wall hanging for the wall above our fireplace. i've asked steve if he has any quotes he loves, but no, not really.  and i simply can't decide.  i'd like it to be a bit of an inspirational reminder, how to live life, etc... but nothing too heavy handed - here are a few contenders, none of which feel perfect - song lyrics give me some of the best ones - if you have any fave quotes please leave a comment!

there will be an answer, let it be
not all those who wander are lost
the world is a book, those who do not travel only read one page
we'd be good, we'd be great together
nobody said it was easy
live the life you want
i don't know where i'm going but i promise it won't be boring
every day matters

i also love this poster, by Owen Gildersleeve for the Guardian.  advice to new students.

  1. Probably my favourite song lyric, from an Art Garfunkel song:

    It will be hard we know
    And the road will be muddy and rough
    But we'll get there
    Heaven knows how we will get there
    But we know we will

  2. My favorite is: the world is a book.....
    but also: "everything's relative", is not bad.

  3. 'one day i'll know all the answers or simply stop asking the questions' its from war&peace, i used to like it but ive kinda abondoned it recently, plus it may be a bit morbid to hang over your fireplace :P

  4. ooh i like all of them so far, and no i don't think that last one is too morbid - you stop asking because you realize you don't need to know all the answers...no?

    'The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.'

  6. Hi Mel! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, life got crazy with the start of the new semester. When I was in France, I lived in Tours for about a month and then I lived in Paris for 5 months. I also spent about 2-3 weeks in Nice. So happy to discover your blog! :)

  11. My one embroidery project was a pillow that said, "if you want the best seat in the house, move the dog."

    Wouldn't work over a fireplace.

  12. My and uncle do embroidery. They both travel a lot, and it calms their nerves. My favorite "sampler" of theirs reads, "Nobody Loves a Smart Ass." SITS sent me by, and I'm glad they did!

  13. I like these:
    Winners never quit and quitters never win.

    Age is mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. (I even did a post about this one: http://zemeks.blogspot.com/2009/12/age-doesnt-matter-and-mr-jolly-writers.html)

    Prayer changes things.

    Visiting from SITS.

  15. Might be a bit long for over the fire place but I have this one posted to my computer:

    Knowing others is intelligence;
    Knowing yourself is true wisdom.

    Mastering others is strength;
    Mastering yourself is true power.
